You don’t have to go to a music festival to enjoy live music outdoors. There are a number of outdoor concert venues in the Washington, D.C. area. From jazz, R&B and soul to country, rock and pop, there is an outdoor concert for almost every genre. This is definitely going to be one of the best outdoor music experiences you will attend all year. Featuring some of the best in R&B and soul, the lineup sounds like a wish list. Erykah Badu, Estelle, Anthony Hamilton and the recently reunited Floetry make for a heck of a festival. On top of that, you have local favorites and legends, Junkyard Band. The list doesn’t end there – there are plenty more acts, including special guests.

Jiffy Lube Live is where you are likely to find the biggest names in country in the DC area. This summer Tim McGraw stops by the outdoor venue on his Shotgun Rider Tour, in support of his hit album of the same name. Accompanying him on the tour are Billy Currington and Chase Bryant. Two generations of country music stars with three different aspects on the genre; there’s a little something for everyone.

The ’80s were a magical time for music, especially for pop music. Culture Club emerged on the scene with a string of other Brit-pop bands. Lead singer Boy George became an icon for his style and attitude. Although the singer has has an infamous career and life, he has gotten back on track in the last few years. This has led to the band’s return to the stage. If you’re an ’80s music lover, this is the concert for you.

Grammy Award-nominated southern rock band Alabama Shakes are on quite a roll. After a spectacular display on “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year, the band’s sophomore album, “Sounds & Color,” debuted at No. 1. Certainly to garner the band more nominations and awards, the album is an exploration of music, traversing different genres, styles and inspirations. Their energetic, captivating live shows have put them on several lists. You should put them on yours and see them this August at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
